The compact crossover Honda XR-V appeared in the model lineup of the Japanese manufacturer in the fall of 2014. The car is produced at a joint venture in China, created together with the Dongfeng concern, and is intended for the domestic market of this country.

Initial version

The car presented in 2014 was created on the basis of the second-generation HR-V crossover, but not the global one, but the Japanese version, which was called Vezel. Both crossovers had significant changes in their appearance, differing in most of the body panels. The Japanese brand preferred not to create internal competition with Vezel on the Chinese market, which was also present on it. The exterior of its copy was determined by a different, more "sporty" concept. It was reflected in the design of the salon, where horizontally arranged air vents were replaced with round elements. In technical terms, the car was an exact copy of the "Chinese" Vezel, borrowing from it not only the chassis but also the engine range, which in the first years of sales consisted of 4-cylinder gasoline "atmospheric" engines with a volume of 1.5 and 1.8 liters i-VTEC. In 2020, a turbocharged version of the 1.5-liter engine appeared in it, replacing the previous 1.8-liter power unit.

Second generation

The next generation of the car appeared only in 2022, a year after the release of the "global" version of Vezel. However, the "sporty" version for the countries of Southeast Asia, known as Honda HR-V RS, was taken as the basis. This was also due to the Japanese brand's desire not to create internal competition with Vezel, which at that time was produced at a joint venture with GAC in China. The crossover differed from the original version with a more aggressive exterior design, having other bumpers, plastic overlays around the body, a chrome radiator grille, and tinted rear lights, in which, like the headlights, LEDs were used. Despite the deliberate "sportiness" in the design, the car received a rather trivial set of components. The only available engine was a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four gasoline engine, which, after a cycle of modernization, produced 177 horsepower and 240 Nm. The power unit works in pair with a variator and front-wheel drive. A semi-dependent beam is used at the rear, which does not allow considering this crossover "charged".
