The Honda City has been in the brand's production lineup since 1981, changing segments twice during this time. Current version

The car presented in 2019 differed significantly from its predecessors, despite using the platform from the subcompact Jazz and Fit. This was still a sedan, but with a more "substantial" design, as well as noticeably increased dimensions in all directions, which are only slightly less than those of the brand's passenger cars in the C segment. The interior design also does not have any obvious hints of "kinship" with Jazz, but at the same time, it is executed in a conservative key, offering an analog instrument panel, a round steering wheel with three spokes and control buttons, a touch-sensitive display of the multimedia system of a small size by today's standards, a climate control panel with physical buttons and handles. In terms of equipment, the car is practically not distinguished from its "classmates", offering climate control, rear view camera, "cruise", seats with artificial leather trim and rear view camera only in the most expensive versions. The top version is called RS and is distinguished by "sports" notes in the decorative design of the body and interior. Technically, the car has retained a much more obvious connection with Jazz, "borrowing" from it a single power unit - a turbocharged 1-liter gasoline "triple" that develops up to 122 horsepower and 173 Nm. The engine works in "pair" with a variator, which simulates switching between seven "gears". Later, a version for the Indian market was presented, where, in addition to the variator, a mechanical gearbox was available, as well as a 1.5-liter diesel engine.

Lineup expansion

In 2020, the Japanese brand expanded the lineup with a version in a hatchback body, which replaced Jazz in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brazil, offering "more car" for the same cost. In addition to the dimensions, it was distinguished by the extended transformation capabilities of the rear sofa, "taken" from the same Jazz. Along with the hatchback, a version with a hybrid powertrain i-MMD was released. The simplest version of it was used with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine with a capacity of 98 horsepower, operating according to the Atkinson cycle. At "urban" speeds, it is used as a generator for the traction electric motor, which rotates the front wheels. Under peak loads, it produces up to 108 horsepower and 253 Nm. At high speed, the ICE is connected to the driving wheels through a clutch and a single-speed planetary gearbox, leveling off the decrease in the efficiency of the electric motor. With an identical exterior, such a version in the salon is distinguished by an instrument panel, where instead of a tachometer, a color screen is used, which displays the main information about the operation of the "electric" part of the power unit.

Restyling

In 2023, the car underwent a modernization. Changes in the exterior were minor. The rear bumper received a diffuser imitation, and the trunk lid - a small spoiler. In the front, in addition to a more aggressive bumper, a radiator grille with a "plug" of a smaller size than before appeared. In the salon, there were even fewer changes. More "expensive" looking trim materials are used. In particular, in the top versions, a pad with an imitation of natural wood appeared under the multimedia system screen, as well as the possibility of ordering artificial leather trim in beige color.
