The Honda Prelude is a sports coupe that was produced by the Japanese company for a long time, from 1978 to 2001. Beginnings

In 1978, the company introduced the first generation of the Honda Prelude, borrowing some elements from the "Accord". This applies to some suspension nodes, the salon, and a number of other systems. The car turned out to be quite large, especially compared to other models. Under the hood, it was equipped with a 1.6-liter engine that could produce up to 80 horsepower at 5,000 revolutions. A classic five-speed "mechanics" or a two-speed automatic transmission served as the transmission. The car turned out to be quite original and immediately attracted attention.

In 1982, the second generation of the car started, which received a completely changed exterior with a large glazed area. The model acquired more aerodynamic forms, which positively affected its speed characteristics. To this, we should add a 1.8-liter engine with a double carburetor, which produced 105 horsepower. Later, a version with a two-liter engine appeared, producing 160 horsepower (in Europe, its analog showed only 137 horsepower at its peak). The main design feature of the "Prelude" was the "pop-up" headlights, which hid in the under-hood space. According to the manufacturer's idea, this solution was supposed to reduce air resistance. In reality, however, when the headlights were open, the coefficient of resistance was higher than that of analogs with classic lighting devices.

The next generation appeared in 1988. The car fully inherited the appearance of the second generation, only with some improvements. This was also a two-door coupe with a wedge-shaped profile, which gave the car a sporty look. The "trick" with foldable headlights also remained. The engines also remained unchanged, and a 4-speed "automatic" or a 5-speed manual transmission served as the gearbox. A distinctive feature was the 4WS system, which provided rotation of all four wheels. This affected the car's maneuverability, especially at high speeds. In 1990, the restyling brought more ergonomics to the salon, changed the instrument panel, and bumpers.

Development

In 1991, the production of the fourth generation was launched. Along with new engines, the car lost its pop-up headlights. The four-wheel steering system now received electronic control, making the car even more "obedient". Depending on the markets, the model was equipped with an audio system with a subwoofer, climate control, heated seats and mirrors, and electric mirror drives.

The fifth and final generation debuted in 1996. The car slightly increased in size, and it again featured a more angular design. The engines underwent a major overhaul, which made it possible to increase their power. In combination with the improved suspension, this allowed the car to become more speedy and maneuverable. The interior design also changed significantly, with more expensive materials being used. The model existed until 2001.
