Fiat Automobiles SpA – an Italian automobile manufacturer. Previously part of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, it became a subsidiary of the Stellantis conglomerate in 2021.

History

The company was founded in 1899 by a group of investors, one of whom was Giovanni Agnelli. The first plant was opened in 1900, with a staff of 35 people who produced 24 cars in a year. By 1903, the company had become profitable, allowing it to produce 135 cars. And in 1906, production volumes reached 1,149 units. At the same time, the company conducted its first stock sale on the Milan Stock Exchange. This allowed it to expand significantly, becoming the largest automobile manufacturer in Italy. At the same time, the product line underwent significant changes, with the addition of trucks and buses. During World War I, Fiat was engaged in the production of military products, ranging from aircraft to vehicles for evacuating the wounded. After the war, the company introduced its debut tractor model. By the early 1920s, Fiat occupied more than 80% of the Italian automobile market, maintaining this status until the automotive crisis of the late 1980s.

Fiat in Russia

Fiat's first appearance in Russia took place in 1916, when an agreement was concluded between the Ryabushinsky entrepreneurs and the tsarist government on the construction of an automobile plant. According to its provisions, the enterprise was to be located in Moscow and produce Fiat 15 Ter trucks for the needs of the army. Due to the 1917 revolution, it was not possible to complete the construction of the plant. Its degree of readiness was estimated at 2/3 to 3/4, so only "screwdriver" assembly of trucks from machine sets was possible.

The company's next arrival in Russia occurred in 1966, when it participated in the construction of the Volga Automobile Plant, where the VAZ-2101 was produced, the prototype of which was the Fiat 124. In 2010, the Italian concern signed an agreement on the creation of a joint venture in Naberezhnye Chelny for the production of passenger and commercial vehicles of various classes, as well as tractors, combines, and excavators under the CNH brand.
