Among the innovations, it is worth noting the sliding side doors, as well as a large rear door that provided excellent access to the luggage compartment. The model itself became lighter and more maneuverable. Its suspension was completely redesigned, which affected the quality of handling.Under the hood, more economical 2 and 2.5-liter engines were installed, the power of which varied and reached up to 200 horsepower.
In 2003, a facelift was performed, which changed the radiator grille, bumpers, and lighting. In the salon, new materials began to be used, including aluminum inserts. The model in this form existed until 2006. After that, it left the markets of Europe and the USA. Despite this factor, the manufacturer presented a new generation in the same year, which acquired more smoothed features. The main markets were Japan, Thailand, South Korea, and India. Among the features, it is worth noting the low center of gravity and the redesigned suspension, the combination of which improved the accuracy of handling. The body became more rigid, and the space in the salon increased. The car was equipped with a multitude of auxiliary systems that improved the comfort of its management. The model was able to exist until 2016, undergoing a series of modernizations.
