The second generation of the Mazda MX-5 appeared in 1998. The car received a new body, but the suspension structure remained the same – independent with transverse stability stabilizers. The car became safer – the pop-up headlights were removed, and the body rigidity increased. In 2005, a new generation appeared, which increased in size. The rear suspension became multi-link, and the equipment became more modern. The fourth generation was created in collaboration with Fiat. The model was presented in 2014, and its full-scale production started in 2015. The basis was a universal platform used for the Fiat Spider. The car turned out to be the smallest in history, and its weight was again less than a ton. At the same time, the manufacturer took care of safety, increasing the rigidity of the body elements. Despite the fact that the suspension structure remained the same, it significantly decreased in weight. This was achieved through the use of aluminum parts.
