In 2006, a new product was introduced, the basis of which was the Ford Ranger. The fact is that Mazda was actively cooperating with the American company at that time. Therefore, Ford engines were installed under the hood – 2.5 and 3-liter Duratorq diesel engines. Along with them, the car was also equipped with an old Japanese development – a 2.2-liter diesel engine. The drive could be either rear or full. At the initial stage, only a 6-speed manual transmission was assumed, a little later a "automatic" transmission was added to it.The machine was based on a frame structure, which provided a high level of body rigidity. The front suspension was independent, and the rear suspension was dependent on the spring type. The cabin could be one of three options: a two-door two-seater, a short four-seater, and a long four-seater.
The model was supplied to many countries of the world, including Russia until 2011. After which, an updated version was replaced, which was announced in 2010. The design of the car was developed by Ford's Australian division. The pickup got a completely new look, although it remained based on the Ford Ranger platform. The scope of its sales was reduced, beginning to supply only to Asia, South Africa, and Australia.
The power units of the new product were represented by a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with a power of 166 hp, as well as 2.2-liter diesel versions with two boost options of 125 and 150 hp. There was also a more voluminous version of 3.2 liters, capable of delivering 200 hp. Along with them, a six-speed "automatic" (except for the gasoline version) and a classic "mechanics" on 6 speeds worked.
In 2015, the BT-50 underwent a restyling, which slightly changed its appearance, as well as updated the multimedia system, which had the ability to connect mobile devices (Apple and Android).

The third generation was introduced in 2020. Now its basis is a pickup from another Japanese manufacturer, namely Isuzu D-Max. Moreover, if the new product's appearance fully complies with Mazda's current Kodo design, then the design features are taken from the "base". This applies to the frame structure, body, cabin, and even interior parts. Under the hood, Isuzu power units are now installed – 3 liters, 190 hp, as well as 1.9 liters, 150 hp.
