It included the debut of the Skyactiv engine family - an inline 2-liter gasoline "four" with an increased compression ratio. In combination with the start-stop system, this made the car 10% more economical, reducing harmful emissions by 15%. Another innovation was a 1.6-liter turbocharged diesel engine developed by PSA and produced at Ford plants. As part of the 2013 update, the car received the Skyactiv-Drive automatic transmission, which further increased the fuel efficiency of the minivan.
