The company Chrysler is one of the "Big Three" automakers in the United States, based in the state of Michigan. Currently, it is the North American division of the multinational corporation Stellantis, which sells vehicles worldwide under the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram brands. It also includes the automotive parts and accessories manufacturer Mopar, and the SRT division, which is responsible for developing and producing high-performance models.

History

In its original form, the Chrysler company was founded in 1925 by Walter Chrysler on the basis of the remnants of the bankrupt Maxwell Motor. The company's business model was based on diversification and a hierarchy of brands, which was actively used by General Motors. W. Chrysler borrowed it, using his experience working at Buick, which was part of GM. Soon after creating his own company, they acquired Fargo Trucks and Dodge Brothers, and in 1928, they founded the Plymouth and DeSoto brands. The almost unhindered growth of production came to an end and began to decline after the end of World War II. All this was accompanied by strong competition from GM and Ford, which increased their market share at the expense of Chrysler. The company's management decided to focus on European countries. In 1954, a loan of $250 million was made to Prudential Insurance, which went towards expanding the model range and developing a new design for Chrysler vehicles.

In the 1960s, Chrysler gained control over a large number of French, Spanish, and British brands. Nevertheless, this only exacerbated the company's financial problems, which grew like a snowball in the 1970s. They became so significant that they brought Chrysler to the brink of bankruptcy. The company was saved thanks to US government loan guarantees of $1.5 billion, as well as the sale of the Chrysler Europe division to the French conglomerate PSA in 1978 for $1 billion. The 1980s were the most peaceful years for the company, during which it actively collaborated with Mitsubishi, using its engineering solutions in its models and selling Japanese brand vehicles under the Dodge and Plymouth brands. This, in particular, allowed the company to acquire AMC in 1987, gaining control over the profitable Jeep and Eagle brands.

In 1998, Chrysler was acquired by the German Daimler-Benz, which later renamed itself DaimlerChrysler. This high-profile merger sparked controversy among investors, which largely led to the sale of the problematic asset to Cerberus Capital Management in 2007, just on the eve of the automotive crisis that lasted until 2010.

Chrysler today

Since the early 2000s, the brand has had an uncertain future, as it had a lineup consisting of only two models - the Pacifica minivan and the 300 sedan. The latter is a fairly popular model on the Russian market, as can be judged by the demand for tires for this car in the online store "Mosavtoshina". Recent statements by the company's management say that the brand will be significantly updated by 2028 thanks to the appearance of a lineup consisting entirely of electric vehicles.
