The Amstrong Tyres company was founded in 1912 in New Jersey, USA. By the early 1960s, the firm had become one of the largest North American tire manufacturers. In the late 1980s, it was sold to Pirelli and by 2012 had effectively ceased to exist. Currently, the Armstrong brand is owned by the Asian tire holding company ZAFCO, along with such brands as Accelera, Zeetex, and Forceun.
Today, under this brand, more than a dozen tire models for trucks are offered. They are distributed across the following categories:
- for long-haul transportation;
- for regional transportation;
- for mixed operating conditions.
The "long-haul" tires from Armstrong are positioned by the manufacturer as "premium" class models, distinguished by improved operational properties. They are characterized by an increased tread depth, which increases the life of the tire, as well as an optimized design of the carcass and tread, which improves traction and fuel efficiency. On the move, such tires demonstrate good stability at high speeds and comfort in handling.
Tires for regional transportation are designed for more complex operating conditions, which involves the use of a reinforced carcass and special compounds. Unlike most other manufacturers, hardly half of the models of these tires are designed for installation on a specific axle. A slight increase in operating costs is compensated by a significant improvement in driving properties.
The Armstrong tire line for mixed operating conditions is mainly represented by universal models that can be installed on any axle. This significantly increases reliability, along with the design features of these tires. These include the use of particularly durable carcasses and rubber compounds, as well as an increased thickness of the tread and sidewalls. This minimizes the risk of tire damage even with significant wear.
