BFGoodrich Tires

The BFGoodrich brand has chosen a two-word slogan that succinctly characterizes the entire essence of its products and makes car owners understand that it's worth trusting the safety of their vehicle to this company while driving.

Today, this company is a subsidiary of the French company Michelin and produces a huge number of various tires. Moreover, not only for cars - this also applies to other equipment. By the way, some time ago the company was known under a slightly different name - Goodrich Corporation, at that time it was completely dedicated to the aerospace theme.

History

It all started in 1870. Then a medical doctor named Benjamin Goodrich decided to engage in entrepreneurship and founded a company to produce various rubber products. The company was established in the city of Akron, Ohio. It was here that Goodrich settled after his business in New York failed. It should be noted that before that, he tried to do business and even bought the Hudson Rubber Company, but it went bankrupt.

The new company of the former Confederate Army surgeon was engaged in the production of a wide range of rubber products, and by the end of the 19th century, it became clear that the demand for them was incredibly high. Although Goodrich also managed to save this company from bankruptcy with difficulty twice. In fact, the only salvation that made the company stop balancing on the verge of collapse was the invention of John Dunlop, a veterinarian from Ireland. He, as some may know, created the pneumatic tire, which happened in 1888. It instantly gained popularity among cycling enthusiasts, and car enthusiasts immediately picked up this fashion.

The real success came to the BFGoodrich company when the first Winton car in 1903, equipped with Goodrich's tires, drove across the country. This provided Goodrich with excellent advertising. Soon the company had grown and become known throughout the United States - precisely as a manufacturer of automobile tires. It is on their production that the brand has relied ever since.

To date, this company has a large number of developments in the tire production industry. For example, it was the first in all of North America to introduce tubeless tires in 1947. In 1954 - tires made of synthetic materials (artificial rubber). Already in 1961, the company received an order from the NASA space agency to develop space suits. And in 1965, the company developed an innovative model of radial tires, which received an extremely illustrative name - Lifesaver.

It would be unreasonable to list all the achievements of this company, but it makes sense to say the following: in 1977, BFGoodrich achieved the installation of its tires on the Columbia space shuttle. Not every tire manufacturer can boast of something like this.

Among all these achievements, one can note a rather curious fact: the head and founder of the company, Benjamin Goodrich, was the first person in all of Akron to have a telephone installed in his house. And it would not be so great if it were not for the additional circumstance: the device was given to him personally by Alexander Bell, the inventor of the telephone.
