Tires on Mazda (Мазда)

The Japanese company Mazda is one of the largest in the world manufacturers of passenger and compact commercial vehicles. In addition, the firm is known for its innovative technologies and victories in such races as the "24 Hours of Le Mans".

History of the company

The company began its activity as a cork factory in Hiroshima, built in 1920 and called Toyo Cork Kogyo at that time. In 1927, the company switched to the production of machine tools, and in 1931, it began to assemble vehicles, the Mazda-Go self-propelled rickshaws. The name was borrowed from the god of harmony, reason, and wisdom Ahura Mazda, although later the leaders of Toyo Kogyo interpreted it as a symbol of automotive civilization and culture. Before World War II, the Mazda inscription was used in combination with the corporate emblem of Mitsubishi, which was engaged in the sale of three-wheeled commercial vehicles produced by Toyo Kogyo. During the war, the company was engaged in the production of rifles for the army. The official name change to the current one occurred only in 1984, although since 1960, when the Mazda R360 was introduced, every car of the company had a badge with the inscription Mazda.

Wankel engine

In the early 1960s, Mazda came to the understanding of the need to somehow distinguish their cars from similar models of other Japanese brands. The solution was found in the form of a rotary-piston Wankel engine, which was developed with serious engineering efforts. At the same time, the company actively collaborated with the German NSU, which had a successfully selling sedan Ro 80 in its product line, equipped with a rotary-piston engine. Its introduction to Mazda began in 1967, when the Cosmo Sport appeared in serial production. By the beginning of the 1970s, the Japanese manufacturer remained the only one who used such engines in mass-produced cars. For them, this attempt to attract attention to their products was quite successful, since the "rotary" engines of Mazda were distinguished by good power at a small working volume and weight. Competitors demonstrated comparable characteristics with much more massive and bulky motors with 6 and 8 cylinders. As a result, the R100 and RX series that appeared by that time prevailed in the export of the Japanese company, becoming its visiting card and allowing it to enter such a large market as North America. Moreover, specifically for it, the company developed the world's only pickup truck with a rotary-piston engine - Rotary Pickup. Mazda's success overseas continued until the oil crisis in 1973, when Americans quickly switched to cars with low fuel consumption, which was one of the main drawbacks of the "rotary". As a result, the company met 1975 with huge losses and was on the verge of bankruptcy, which was avoided thanks to the help of Sumitomo, subcontractors, and distributors of the company. Nevertheless, it did not completely abandon the rotary-piston engines, continuing the production of 4-cylinder models throughout the 1970s. They were installed on the RX-7/8 coupes, as well as the MX-5 Miata roadster, which received worldwide recognition in the late 80s and early 90s with such an engine. Given the presence in the Mazda product line of cars with pronounced sports characteristics, it is extremely important to correctly select tires for them. Such tires are presented in a wide range in the online store "Mosavtoshina".
