Lada Samara – a front-wheel drive car produced by the Volga plant from 1984 to 2013. Notably, the Zaporizhzhia plant assembled this model from 2004 to 2014. This was the first car produced by the manufacturer that was fully developed by Soviet engineers without borrowing from the Italian Fiat, as was the case before. The result of their meticulous work was a car with an angular design, a fairly reliable suspension, an energy-intensive engine, and good handling (for its time). Yes, it did not stand out for its luxurious interior, but the car was notable for its affordability in financial terms. This was exactly what the manufacturer was aiming for.

The first "eight" started rolling off the assembly line in 1984. The car was made in the form of a hatchback with three doors. Initially, it was positioned as a family car, with rear seats where children could be seated without worrying that they might open the doors while driving. In reality, the car appealed to young people.

This was already a five-door version, which had a more spacious interior and a roomy trunk. This model is associated with an entire era in the lives of Soviet people, who lived through the "turbulent 90s". Note that at the initial stage, the car was called Lada Sputnik, and its export version was Samara. But over time, the latter name came to be applied to all variants.

Restyling

From 1997, the production of an updated version of the "Samara" began, which unofficially received the title of the second generation. In essence, it was the same car, only with modified bumpers, narrower headlights, and a redesigned interior. Both three- and five-door versions were still produced. For several years, a modernization process was underway. As a result, the "eight" turned into the 2113, the "nine" into the 2114, and the "ninety-ninth" into the 2115.

Power units

The first models were equipped with in-line "fours" with eight valves, with a carburetor and running on gasoline. Their volume was 1.3 liters, later improved engines with 1.1 and 1.5 liters and distributed injection appeared. And from 2005, all models received engines with distributed injection.

Note that the "Samara" became the first car produced by the manufacturer to be equipped with a five-speed "mechanics".

The cessation of conveyor production occurred in 2013. This marked the end of the Lada Samara era.
