Lada Kalina is a line of compact passenger cars that were produced from 2004 to 2018. The model was positioned as a successor to the popular "classics", cars developed in the late 1960s based on the Italian Fiat 124.

First Generation

The car appeared in serial production in the fall of 2004. In the first years of production, it was offered only with one body type - a sedan. After a few years, a 5-door hatchback appeared, and in early 2007 - a station wagon. All three versions used the "Gamma" platform of its own design, as well as a body that provided low aerodynamic resistance compared to its predecessors, and also differed in extremely efficient use of internal space. The engine range at the beginning of serial production consisted of one engine - an in-line "four" with a volume of 1.6 liters. In the summer of 2007, versions with a 16-valve power unit with a volume of 1.4 liters appeared. A year later, the brand introduced the "charged" Sport version, which differed in a more aggressive appearance and corresponding changes in the salon.

Second Generation

In the late summer of 2012, the debut of the second-generation car took place. It was a deeply modernized version of the previous model, created on the same "Gamma" platform. However, most of the technical components were borrowed from the recently released Lada Granta sedan. In fact, due to the existence of this model, the version with a 3-volume body was removed from the line, which now consisted of a 5-door hatchback and a station wagon. The sedan "shared" the steering, power elements of the body, negative camber, as well as some power units. The engine range consisted of four engines, one of which, with the index 21127, was new, representing a modernized version of the previously installed 16-valve engine with a volume of 1.6 liters. The presence of a variable intake allowed to increase the power to 106 hp, and the torque to 148 Nm, significantly increasing it in the zone of low revolutions. At the same time, its previous version was preserved, since only this power unit could be combined with a 4-speed automatic transmission from the Japanese Jatco. This "couple" was also shared with the Granta sedan. In the standard configuration, the car was still equipped with a mechanical 5-speed gearbox, but already with a cable drive, which allowed to get rid of vibrations on the gearshift lever. This model, despite being discontinued in 2018, is still often found on our roads, occasionally requiring replacement of tires and wheels.
