Lada Granta is a line of compact cars of segment B of Russian production. It has been produced since 2011, initially being a simplified and cheaper version of the Kalina model, but later becoming its successor.

Low Cost Project

In 2010, the Russian manufacturer announced plans to create a so-called "people's car" with minimal cost. The working title of the project was the English phrase Low Cost, which was later replaced by Granta after a competition. At the same time, the cost of the car turned out to be slightly higher than that of the "classic" models 2105 and 2107 being produced at that time. This was explained by the use of airbags, Isofix mounts, and an engine that meets the requirements of the Euro-4 environmental standard, already in the basic configuration of the model. The premiere of its serial instance took place in May 2011.

Initial Version

At the start of sales, the car was available only with one body type - a sedan. The layout was classic for the brand - front-wheel drive and transverse engine placement. The engine range consisted of power units of its own design - in-line "fours" with a power of 98 liters. s. Until 2012, cars were equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, and later optionally offered modifications with a 4-speed "automatic" from the Japanese JATCO. This made the model the first in the brand's history to be equipped with an automatic transmission. Moreover, it was the most modern version of this unit, which at that time was installed on a number of compact Nissan models.

In 2011, the Russian manufacturer presented a "charged" version of the model. It differed in 16-inch alloy wheels, low-profile tires from Yokohama, increased brake discs, a reconfigured suspension with gas-filled shock absorbers, which reduced the clearance by 20 mm. But the most important innovation was the appearance of an engine from the "twelfth" with a power of 106 liters. s. In the spring of 2013, the brand presented a modification in the 5-door liftback body. Another difference from the standard version was the rear bumper and doors.

2018 Modification

After seven years of serial production, the car underwent a restyling. As part of the update, the model turned into a whole line, represented by modifications in the sedan, hatchback, liftback and station wagon bodies. All cars were "Kalina", which by that time had been discontinued. In 2019, the brand added several more versions to the line - "off-road" Cross and Drive Active. In the first case, a car with an increased ground clearance of 23 mm was offered, which was achieved using other shock absorbers and springs, as well as plastic overlays that protect the body from damage. In turn, the creation of Drive Active was handled by the brand's "sports" division. This modification has a suspension lowered by 18 mm, an aerodynamic body kit in the form of a spoiler on the trunk lid and modified bumpers, a chrome-plated exhaust system nozzle from Vesta Sport, seats with increased lateral support, a leather steering wheel and a gearshift knob with red stitching. In 2020, the manufacturer continued to increase the list of versions, adding to the already existing CLUB with improved equipment and Cross Quest with a black roof and wheels, upholstery made of water- and dirt-repellent fabric, a rubber mat and nets in the luggage compartment.
