The serial production of Lada 2109 was carried out from 1991 to 2004. The car was a compact hatchback, being a 5-door version of the model with the index 2108, which debuted in the production range of the Russian company two years earlier.History of creation
The development of the model and the entire line, which it was part of, was carried out starting from the mid-1970s. The first experimental samples had a 3-door body, which later went into production with the index 2108. The 5-door version had maximum unification, but its production began only in 1986, two years later, exclusively for economic reasons.Design features
Externally, the car was distinguished, first of all, by the 5-door body, for which the front door openings had to be made significantly narrower. Other important features include the fuel tank, which, unlike the steel one of the model with the index 2108, was made of plastic. The appearance of two additional doors significantly simplified access to the second row of seats.In the first years of production, the hatchback was equipped with in-line gasoline "fours" with an 8-valve cylinder head with a volume of 1.1 to 1.5 liters with a carburetor fuel system. They worked in tandem with a 4-speed manual transmission. They were replaced by more modern versions with an injector only in the mid-1990s. Also, as part of the restyling, the car received a more modern instrument panel, which included a route computer and a tachometer. Many more innovations were in the list of options, which included air conditioning, a hydraulic power steering booster, and electric windows. Separately, it is worth noting the modification for the Finnish market. It was distinguished by the interior trim with higher-quality materials, a plastic body kit around the perimeter of the body, a different front console, as well as cast aluminum wheels.
