    Lada 2108 is a compact 3-door hatchback produced by the Volga Automobile Plant from 1984 to 2014. In the lineup of passenger cars with the name "Sputnik", it was the base model.

    Main features

    The car, presented in 1984, had a bearing body made of sheet steel, which, depending on the version, could be passenger or passenger-cargo. Another feature was the use of low-carbon steel sheet with a thickness of 0.8 to 1.2 mm. The first years of production, the car was equipped with petrol engines with a volume of 1.1 to 1.5 liters with a carburetor fuel system. Subsequently, all these power units were modified, in particular, they received an electronically controlled fuel injection system. The engines were designed specifically for the Sputnik model range, the layout of which provided for a transverse engine arrangement and front-wheel drive. It is for this reason that the engine and gearbox are a single unit, fixed in the engine compartment by means of three elastic mounts. Depending on the modification, the engines worked in pair with 4- or 5-speed manual gearboxes. The front suspension was a classic "MacPherson" in contrast to the rear, which used torsions. This solution provided the car with excellent handling while maintaining good smoothness of the ride. The rear torsion suspension made it possible to significantly increase the volume of the luggage compartment. Despite the long absence from serial production, this 3-door hatchback is still often found on our roads, from time to time requiring replacement of tires and wheel discs.
