Kia Sportage is a line of SUVs produced by the South Korean automaker since 1993. Initially, it was a compact SUV on a ladder frame. The engine range consisted of Mazda FE and RF series engines, with which the first-generation model was sold until 2002, when its production was discontinued.

2nd generation

The second-generation model was introduced after a three-year break, in 2005. This time, the Hyundai Elantra/Tucson platform of the first generation was used, which implied a rejection of the frame chassis in favor of a bearing body. This caused a flurry of criticism from the owners of the previous generation Sportage, as the new model lost a significant part of its off-road qualities, along with a noticeable increase in the wheelbase. But, in the end, the circle of buyers of this now crossover turned out to be much wider, since, in addition to a more spacious salon, high-quality trim materials, it offered as an option a V-shaped 6-cylinder engine with a power of 173 hp, a unique offer at that time, given the price of this car. 3rd generation

In 2010, the 3rd generation model was shown, which also used Hyundai platforms and components. The V-shaped "six" version disappeared from the engine range, but 2-liter diesel and petrol engines appeared. Externally, the car changed much more, as well as in the interior of the salon. At the same time, it inherited the mechanical reliability and low cost of ownership from its predecessor.

4th and 5th generation

The next update of the model took place in 2015. Externally, the new product differed in design with sharp contrasting edges of the body panels. In the engine range, in addition to those borrowed from the car of the previous generation, there were petrol engines with a volume of 1.6 and 2.4 liters. Moreover, one of the options for the 1.6-liter unit was equipped with a turbocharger. In addition, a robotic gearbox with a double clutch appeared in the list of options. All these components moved to the 5th generation model, presented in 2021.
