The subcompact crossover Kia KX3 has been present in the production line of the South Korean brand since 2015. Initially, the car was intended for the domestic Chinese market, being produced there at a joint venture with Dongfeng.

First Generation

The crossover, which debuted in the spring of 2015, was technically closely related to the popular Hyundai Creta in our country, sharing a platform and most nodes and components. Almost all the differences were reduced to design. Stylistically, the car was similar to the more spacious Sportage. Under the hood of the base versions was a 1.6-liter gasoline "atmospheric" engine, developing 123 hp and 151 Nm. It was combined with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, as well as exclusively with front-wheel drive. The possibility of getting a full-wheel drive system was available starting from versions with a 2-liter gasoline engine. In turn, the top-end modifications in this regard were favorably distinguished from the "soplatformed" Creta, as they offered a combination of a 1.6-liter "turbo-four" with 200 hp and 264 Nm, working in tandem with a 7-speed "robot".

In 2018, the car underwent an update. Most of the changes affected the exterior, which featured a concave radiator grille with chrome bars, a silver "skirt" along the lower edge of the sills and bumpers, dual exhaust pipes, and LED rear lights. Another significant change was the revision of the positioning in the model range. At the time of the launch of the updated version in China, the production of the localized version of the Sportage was already underway. Seeking to avoid internal competition, the South Korean brand decided to simplify the model, which lost the most dynamic versions with 2-liter "atmospheric" and 1.6-liter turbocharged engines. As a result, only one modification with a 1.6-liter "atmospheric" engine with 125 hp remained in the lineup, which could only be combined with front-wheel drive and 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Moreover, both remaining configurations had a rigid connection to the transmission.

Second Generation

Just a year after the launch of the updated crossover, a change of generations followed. The "crossover" presented in 2019 was not related to its predecessor, being one of the variants of the well-known subcompact crossover Seltos in our country. Externally, both cars have only minor differences, in particular, due to the design of the bumpers. There was much more difference in the salon, the interior of which was largely borrowed from the Indian version of the "Seltos". The same layout of the front console is used, where the instrument panel and the multimedia system screen are located in a single block. The presence of a touch panel for controlling the climate control system and an original transmission lever on the central tunnel is hardly the only difference. It is also worth noting the more diverse equipment, which includes artificial leather upholstery, keyless entry, and a start button, adaptive cruise control, and a panoramic roof for the top-end versions. The only feature taken from the previous model was the mechanical components. The crossover is offered with a non-alternative "bundle" of a 4-cylinder "atmospheric" engine with a volume of 1.5 liters and a power of 115 hp from the Indian version and front-wheel drive. The base versions are equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, and the more expensive ones with a belt variator. The concept of the car implies the use of universal tires of a small diameter.
