Kia K9 is positioned by the South Korean manufacturer as a full-size luxury sedan. The car has been present in the "passenger" line since 2012, occupying the top position in it.

First Generation

The car, introduced in 2012, was created on the BH-L platform, sharing it and most of the mechanical components with the Hyundai Equus and Genesis. It differs from the first one in its slightly shorter length due to a shortened front overhang, and from the second one in its increased wheelbase and design with a characteristic Kia radiator grille, Tiger nose. The engine range was fully taken from the flagship Hyundai sedans and started with a 3.3-liter V6 gasoline engine, producing 300 horsepower. An alternative to it was also a V6, but with an increased volume of 3.8 liters and a power of 330 horsepower. Both power units were combined exclusively with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The set of equipment was also identical to the flagship models from Hyundai, including a blind spot control system, a projection display above the instrument panel, and automatic switching of the headlight operating mode.

Second Generation

The next-generation sedan debuted in 2018. It differed from its predecessor, first and foremost, in its completely revised exterior design, having lost most of the intricately curved edges, additional window openings in the rear roof pillars, and a more massive radiator grille, which retained the characteristic Kia shape. In technical terms, the car turned out to be close to the Genesis G90 sedan. The base versions were equipped with a "naturally aspirated" 3.8-liter V6 engine with a power of 315 horsepower. In the middle trim level, a turbocharged 3.3-liter V6 engine was offered, producing 370 horsepower. The most expensive modifications were distinguished by a 425-horsepower 5-liter gasoline V8 engine, which was previously available for cars offered on the North American market. Along with the power units from the Genesis G90, the sedan "inherited" an all-wheel-drive system with a front axle coupling, offered as an additional option. This same factor led to the absence of a pneumatic suspension, which was replaced by electronically controlled shock absorbers. The more spacious salon than its predecessor is distinguished by the extensive use of natural materials, the presence of 9 airbags, a virtual instrument panel, and a 12.3-inch multimedia system screen, hovering above the front console. Other notable features include analog clock, Lexicon acoustics, "atmospheric" LED lighting with a choice of 64 colors, and over 70 buttons with built-in sensors that respond to finger proximity and adjust the lighting accordingly.

In 2021, an updated version appeared. The sedan differed from its predecessor in significant changes to the exterior, mainly affecting the front and rear, where a new logo of the South Korean brand appeared at that time. The changes in the salon were minor, the most important of which was the appearance of a new multimedia system with a wide-format screen with a diagonal of 14.5 inches and a remote control function via a smartphone application, including the ability to display an image from the cameras of the circular view on its screen. Thicker glasses are installed not only in the back but also in the front. In addition, adaptive cruise control became part of the standard equipment, which not only automatically keeps the car in the lane but also analyzes traffic using radars and cameras, adjusting the engine, transmission, and suspension accordingly, the latter being "linked" to the front view camera, continuously changing the stiffness depending on the road surface quality. In 2024, the car underwent another update cycle, affecting only the design of the exterior and interior. In particular, the external design of the 19-inch wheels was updated, which, among other products, can be purchased in the online store "Mosavtoshina".
