Kia K4 first appeared in the production range of the South Korean brand in 2014. Initially, it was a compact sedan that was specifically created for the Chinese market and was produced in China at a joint venture with Dongfeng. In 2020, the car was discontinued without a direct successor. The model index was revived in 2024, but already in relation to a line of cars of the same segment, intended for sale all over the world.

The car, which debuted in 2014, was developed specifically for the Chinese market, where the South Korean brand had a significant gap in its model range at that time between the subcompact K3 and the mid-size K5. The sedan was created with consideration for the preferences of Chinese car enthusiasts, which is why it stood out from its "classmates" with a gigantic wheelbase of 2770 mm for this class. This provided a "royal" space for passengers in the second row.

The engine range consisted of "atmospheric" petrol engines with a volume of 1.8 and 2 liters. Later, a turbocharged 1.6-liter power unit appeared in it, combined with a robotic gearbox, intended for the "charged" version of the sedan. Another important technical feature was the suspension settings, adapted to both the preferences of buyers and the not always good road surface in China. The car demonstrated a very smooth ride and average handling. The interior, depending on the configuration, could be either ascetic or sufficiently equipped - with climate control, a multimedia screen, and advanced electronics for its time.

Global Version

Four years after the predecessor was discontinued, the South Korean brand presented a model of the next generation. It had no technical connection with the predecessor, as it was the "global" K3 of the fourth generation. Along with the new index, the car received a design executed in the current Opposites United brand style - narrowed "stripes" of LED headlights, straight body lines, and a coupe-like profile, due to which even the sedan looked more like a liftback. In addition to it, a 5-door hatchback was also present in the line. In terms of equipment, the car was close to the business class, offering in most configuration options wide-format displays of the instrument panel and multimedia system, and an extensive list of electronic driver assistance systems. Depending on the market, the model is equipped with a 2.0-liter atmospheric engine with a variator or a 1.6 T-GDI with an 8-speed "automatic", providing the possibility of intense acceleration. For individual markets, there are also economical versions with a "turbo three" 1.0 and a hybrid power plant, focused on reducing fuel consumption.
