The Suzuki Ignis is currently positioned by the Japanese brand as a subcompact crossover in the B segment. However, initially, this name was used in relation to a compact urban small car, presented in 2000. The concept of the car began to change in 2003, when the manufacturer offered an updated model for the European market, based on the extended version of the Holden Cruze, the result of cooperation with General Motors. In its current form, the car has been produced since 2015, when the debut of its second generation took place.

Technical specifications

The car is built on the HEARTECT platform, which it shares with all the "small cars" of the Japanese brand, starting from the key-kar for the domestic Japanese market. The engine range is represented by two options. The "basic" one is a 1.25-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine, producing 91 hp and 118 Nm. An alternative to it is a hybrid power unit, where the same gasoline engine is used, but in combination with an electric motor with a power of 3 hp and a torque of 50 Nm, activated when starting from a place and accelerating. It is powered by a compact lithium-ion battery with a capacity of only 3 Ah, located under the front passenger seat and charged through the starter-generator. The total weight of all additional components of the hybrid unit is 6.2 kg. In the standard version, the traction is transmitted to the front axle through a 5-speed manual transmission. More expensive versions offer a continuously variable transmission and a four-wheel drive system.

Design and equipment

The car in its second generation is largely reminiscent of a "raised" urban hatchback. This is largely due to the body proportions and the characteristic shape of the rear pillar, along with the relief ventilation openings in the front, which are a direct reference to the Suzuki Cervo SS20 of 1977. Compared to its predecessor, the car has significantly "added" in terms of equipment. Even in the standard version, there is a heated front seat, a complex of electronic safety systems, including automatic braking and delayed shutdown of the headlight when the alarm system is activated.
