The Suzuki SX4 is a compact SUV that has been in production since 2006. The name of the car is an acronym made up of the words Sport X - 4 Seasons.

First Generation

The car debuted in 2005. The model was the result of a joint development between Suzuki and Fiat. The model was created based on the Suzuki Swift using engines - gasoline from the Japanese brand and diesel from Fiat and Peugeot. Initially, the car was available as a 5-door hatchback, but in 2007 the lineup was expanded with a sedan, which, in addition to the 3-volume body, was distinguished by a significantly larger trunk space - 515 liters versus 300 liters for the hatchback. In the "basic" configuration, the car had front-wheel drive. More expensive versions were distinguished by a sufficiently advanced even for today's all-wheel drive system iAWD with three operating modes, including constant torque transmission to all wheels. This mode automatically turned off at speeds over 64 km/h, after which the electronics itself chose how much traction to transmit to each of the axles individually. In addition, the car could be equipped with three transmissions. With the "basic" 1.6-liter engine, this could be a 6-speed "mechanics" or a 4-range "automatic". More powerful modifications were equipped with a continuously variable variator, along with a mechanical transmission.

Second Generation

The next-generation car was presented in 2013, having existed as a concept for about a year before that. Compared to its predecessor, it has significantly increased in size, in all directions, including the wheelbase. This made it possible to significantly expand the space of the salon and trunk. In the standard configuration, the car is offered with front-wheel drive, and in more expensive versions - with the AllGrip all-wheel drive system from Vitara. The engine range was reduced to two engines - a gasoline engine from the predecessor and a new 1.6-liter Fiat Multijet diesel engine. For the first few years, they were combined with 5- and 6-speed "mechanics", as well as a continuously variable variator for the gasoline power unit. In the summer of 2015, diesel versions with a TCSS "robot" of their own design appeared. The following year, the engine range was updated. New Boosterjet engines with direct injection and turbocharging appeared in it - a 3-cylinder 1-liter and a 4-cylinder 1.4-liter. A distinctive feature of the engines was the layout with an integrated exhaust manifold in the cylinder head, which made it possible to almost completely get rid of the so-called "turbo lag".

Third Generation

In the fall of 2021, the manufacturer showed the car of the 3rd generation. To a large extent, it repeated the predecessor, differing, first of all, in the redesigned design, salon, as well as the multimedia system and electronic "assistants" from Vitara. The engine range has changed significantly. The "basic" one became the 1.4-liter gasoline engine Boosterjet from the predecessor, which is also used in both versions of the "hybrid" power unit, also borrowed from Vitara.
