This significantly helped Suzuki, which already in 1970 presented a car with the index LJ10 with an in-line 2-cylinder engine of its own design with a volume of 359 "cubes" with air cooling, which was named Jimny.Main Features
Throughout all decades of serial production, the car uses a ladder-type frame. In turn, the body is considered exclusively as a means of protecting passengers and providing comfort. Another feature that unites all four generations of this car is the presence of solid axles on both axes. Until the 1990s, this was the most common solution, and in the 2020s, it is a unique feature. It is worth noting that the first two generations combined the axles with leaf springs, but starting from the third generation, they were replaced with coil springs, which added comfort and handling to the car. Along with the axles, the steering with a worm mechanism remained unchanged, which is extremely effective off-road and not precise enough on the highway.The next characteristic feature of the model is the all-wheel drive system. By default, the car has rear-wheel drive. The front wheels are connected manually. At the same time, the interaxle differential is absent, which limits the use of all-wheel drive on insufficiently slippery or loose surfaces. Already in the standard configuration, the model is equipped with a 2-range transfer case, which is largely due to the engine range, including engines with a volume of up to 1.5 liters, which do not have a high torque. The installation of more powerful power units was technically possible but proved impractical. The car has a short wheelbase and a large height. The combination of these factors, the basic rear-wheel drive with an excessively powerful engine, significantly increased the risk of skidding and tipping.
