The Suzuki Carry has been present in the Japanese brand's model lineup since 1961. The vehicle represents a subcompact truck, intended exclusively for the domestic Japanese market.

First Generation

The vehicle debuted in the fall of 1961, representing a subcompact pickup with a shortened hood and an engine located directly under the seats. Initially, it was a 2-cylinder engine with a volume of 360 "cubes" with air cooling, developing 21 hp. This power unit was used until 1987. The suspension was represented by leaf springs, installed both in the front and in the back.

Second Generation

The next generation vehicle, released in 1965, differed from its predecessor by a modified ladder frame and a completely revised front suspension. Torsion bars appeared, providing better ride comfort. A version with a fabric canopy for the cargo area and seats designed to carry up to 4 people appeared in the lineup.

Third Generation

In 1966, the third-generation truck appeared. Compared to its predecessor, it stood out with a different cabin. The starter and generator became one unit and were located directly on the crankshaft, which significantly increased the space reserve in the engine compartment.

Fourth Generation

The development of the fourth-generation vehicle was handled by Italian designer Giorgietto Giugiaro, which favorably distinguished the utility model from most of its "classmates". The truck received a modified engine, developing 25 hp. The vehicle's dimensions did not change, being limited by Japan's tax system. Despite its modest size, its payload capacity was 350 kg.

Fifth Generation

The fifth-generation truck debuted in 1972. The design of the previous generation's cabin was significantly revised, losing, in particular, the doors in the side windows, as well as the rectangular headlights, which became round. The power unit received water cooling, which allowed its power to be increased to 28 hp.

Sixth Generation

In 1976, the sixth-generation vehicle was released, which met the updated requirements for kei-cars. Compared to its predecessor, it favorably stood out with increased dimensions, which made it possible to install a larger engine. This was still a 2-stroke "trio", but with a working volume of 540 "cubes".

Seventh Generation

In the spring of 1979, the seventh-generation vehicle appeared in serial production. Its size remained the same, but the position of the power unit changed, noticeably shifting forward. And a year later, it was replaced by a more modern 4-stroke engine with a volume of 543 "cubes".

Eighth Generation

The next generation of the truck was presented in 1985. Compared to its predecessor, it differed primarily in an expanded lineup of versions, where, in particular, a modification with four-wheel drive appeared. Later, a version with a 3-valve engine with a power of 48 hp was added, which was present until 1989, when all power units were replaced with a more modern engine with 4 valves per cylinder. A year later, an even more large-scale update followed. The vehicle received a more streamlined cabin, as well as an engine with the F6A index, with a volume of 660 "cubes", which, depending on the version, developed from 38 to 58 hp.

Ninth Generation

In September 1991, the ninth-generation truck appeared. In essence, it was a modernized version of its predecessor. Perhaps the most significant change was the shift of the power unit forward, which made it possible to increase the distance between the axles. In addition, a different cabin was used in the truck, which was more effective from an aerodynamic point of view.

Tenth and Subsequent Generations

The tenth-generation truck was presented in the winter of 1999. The vehicle received a cabin, the front part of which was identical to the kei-car Every of the fourth generation. Both models were unified and technically, with the exception of the frame platform. In November 2005, the FC modification was added to the lineup, designed for use in agriculture. It was distinguished by a shortened frame and an increased front overhang, which made the truck more maneuverable on narrow roads along rice fields, and also added space for the driver's legs, since the wheel arches were located under the seats. This version was distinguished by a non-alternative 5-speed "mechanics", the possibility of ordering four-wheel drive with a self-locking differential.
