The first instances of the subcompact sedan Suzuki Ciaz were released in 2014. The car is built on a modernized version of the platform from the New SX4 crossover, differing from the "standard" by an increased distance between the wheel axles - 2650 mm. The original version for India is equipped with two engines - a 1.4-liter gasoline engine and a 1.3-liter diesel engine, developing 92 and 90 hp, respectively. Both power units are combined only with a 5-speed manual transmission in standard versions. For the version with a gasoline engine, a 4-speed hydro-mechanical "automatic" is available for order. The Thai Ciaz, due to the peculiarities of local taxation, is available with a 1.25-liter gasoline "four", developing 91 hp, which is combined with a belt variator.
Modified version
In 2018, the next generation car was released. It was still based on the "stretched" platform from the second-generation SX4 crossover. Externally, the sedan differed from its predecessor by an enlarged radiator grille and a chrome-plated coating of its bars. Technically, it largely repeated the previous model. The exception was the engine range, which included a new 1.5-liter gasoline engine, developing 105 hp and 138 Nm of torque. It is distinguished by the presence of a "hybrid" addition in the form of a starter-generator, which is used to extend the operating time of the "start-stop" system when braking. Another difference from the predecessor was the equipment. The base versions offer decorative inserts on the front console and door cards, imitating natural wood, indicators of unfastened seat belts and exceeding the speed limit, rear parking sensors. In turn, the top versions of the configuration have LED headlights, bumpers with a more aggressive design, as well as 16-inch aluminum wheels.
