Michelin X-Ice 3
Tire specifications
DescriptionDescription Michelin X-Ice 3
Michelin X-Ice 3 is a winter tire of the new generation, which provides "uncompromising protection". The use of the company's 4 key technologies in this model has made it truly unique.
The unique design of the shoulder blocks, combined with the use of Cross-Z sipes, significantly improves the car's handling on various road surfaces. Thanks to the special Block Edge gripping edges, the grip on icy and snowy roads has increased.
The application of the Micro-Pump water removal technology improves the tire's contact with the road. The removal of wet snow and water from the contact patch is due to the use of a new V-shaped tread pattern. "Uncompromising effective braking" is ensured as a result of the use of the FleX-Ice compound, which contains a large amount of silica. In addition to these advantages, the Michelin X-Ice 3 tire provides a very high level of energy efficiency, with a guaranteed mileage of 60,000 km.
According to the company's specialists, this tire is much better than previous models: on ice, the grip is 17% higher, the braking distance is 7% shorter, and the corresponding characteristics on snow are improved by 6% and 3%.
By purchasing this model, you will be confident that you are buying a premium product with excellent quality. The use of innovative design and advanced technologies has increased safety and significantly extended their service life. In simple terms, these are currently the best winter tires.
Main features of the Michelin X-Ice 3 winter tire
- increasing the number of tread blocks has increased the number of gripping edges, which has significantly improved traction on any road surface;
- a specially designed zigzag shape of the blocks located in the outer sections has significantly improved longitudinal and lateral traction;
- the unique design of the shoulder blocks has improved handling and traction in deep snow;
- the unique arrangement of the grooves has created a "caterpillar effect", increasing the efficiency of braking and traction;
- optimized directional sipes, specially arranged at various angles, have improved handling when driving straight and when cornering;
- special depressions in the blocks located in the central part have increased the stiffness of the tire, thereby preventing uneven wear;
- small protrusions on the edges of the blocks contact with neighboring blocks, increasing lateral stability on any road surface.

Passed the second half of autumn and a part of winter on this tire in the Kaliningrad region. Primarily I drove on asphalt and wet asphalt. There were a couple of instances of freezing and snow, so I was able to check the winter qualities too. Compared to Nokian WR-D4, the traction on snow and icy surfaces is significantly better, while on asphalt I didn't notice any significant difference. There is a slight rumble that appears when downshifting from 80 to

I replaced my Bridgestone Blizzak REVO GZ with these tyres of the same size, 225/50 R17. I am extremely pleasantly surprised! The tyre is much quieter than the previous ones! I ride over the same city bridge joints much softer! The speed doesn't affect the noise, it's always quiet! It holds super well! Regardless of the surface. On the first day after switching to these tyres, a snowstorm hit and I was driving 200 km to

I bought Michelin X-Ice 3 tires immediately after purchasing the car and have now driven through two winters. Handling on dry and wet asphalt is excellent. They also excel in high-speed cornering. For non-studded tires, ice handling is good. They are extremely quiet and comfortable tires. However, due to this, damage resistance is lower. At speed, I drove into a pothole and burst a tire. I had to replace two tires, as they need to be the same

- On ice, the tire performs well on braking, offers good handling and firmly grips the road on the edge of the curve. During cornering, there may be a slight slide, which is easily neutralized by reducing speed. Predictable and stable. On snow, the tire also offers excellent handling and predictability, and only the braking performance on packed snow could be better. On dry asphalt, the tire brakes well and handles well.
- On a wet asphalt, Michelin demonstrates a typical "Michelin" behavior, with possible understeer of the front axle wheels (insufficient steering), which requires a calm response by reducing speed and avoiding sharp movements
- Recommended.

- Excellent balance

In the subjective rating, the XI3 came in second, only behind Nokian. A slight weakening of control - compared to Nokian - in sharp turns suggests that Michelin's square shoulder design, which was also present on all other tires in the test, does not work as effectively as Hakkapeliitta's. The speeds were high, but the car felt slightly unstable, and the driver had to exert more effort to maintain control.
Additionally, insufficient steering response when pressing the gas - most noticeable when trying to accelerate out of a turn - was also slightly more pronounced than Nokian's. However, despite these minor drawbacks, which are mostly noticeable in controlled test conditions like these, Michelin remains a very balanced winter tire.

- Comfort
Traction on ice
- Insufficient resistance to slash penetration
low impact strength
- Recommended for calm drivers who prioritize comfort.
The X-Ice 3 showed balanced behavior on ice. Skidding on the track is slightly stretched, but the car's reaction is always clear and predictable. On snow, it's harder to drive, the car brakes poorly, in turns it gets stuck in skidding for a long time, dangerously approaching snowdrifts.
In standard modes, driving on asphalt is comfortable and easy, but you can't sharply drive around a pothole, and it's highly undesirable to hit it. The tires are in the trio of the weakest in terms of impact resistance.
