In 1980, four-wheel drive became available for both vans and trucks, although as an option.

Generation 4

A new generation appeared in 1982, which was presented in several van and truck versions. The suspension was redesigned, receiving MacPherson struts at the front and a fully independent construction at the rear. For the domestic market, the model was equipped with a 28-horsepower engine, while for export, it had a 31-horsepower unit.

Generation 5

Production of this generation began in 1990. It received an updated 0.66-liter engine and four-wheel drive in the base versions. The vehicle was equipped not only with a 5-speed manual transmission but also with a 3-position automatic and a variator gearbox.

Generation 6

A new model appeared in 1999. Due to the increased size allowed for the kei car class, the vehicle received a more spacious cabin thanks to the increased overall dimensions. The four-wheel-drive version was now offered only with an automatic transmission. A 58-horsepower engine was installed under the hood, providing higher speed modes. Starting from 2008, the company significantly improved the safety level and equipment of the vehicle. Two airbags for front passengers, electric sliding doors, and power windows appeared. In some trim levels, leather seats were installed.

Generation 7

The next generation was introduced in 2009. It received not only technical changes compared to the previous version but also a new name - Subaru Dias Wagon. For the first time, the vehicle appeared in a semi-bonnet version with a front-mounted engine.

Generation 8

A new generation was introduced to the Japanese market in 2014. The Sambar Truck of this version was simply a renamed Daihatsu Hijet Truck (due to agreements with other manufacturers).
