The power unit is combined with a chain variator Linetronic and the company's proprietary Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system in a modified version, allowing the crossover to tow a trailer with a mass of up to 2.2 tons. Such a transmission is distinguished by the presence of electronic systems X-Mode, which helps on dirt roads, and Active Torque Vectoring from the "charged" WRX STI sedan, which, when turning, presses the brake pads on the inner front wheel, adding traction to the outer wheel, making it easier to enter a turn.

Modified version

In 2022, the car underwent a planned update. Compared to its predecessor, it differed in design, stylistically brought in line with the current models of the Japanese brand at that time, having received a new, more massive radiator grille and front bumper, which, along with other headlights, gave the crossover more aggressiveness. In the cabin, the front console underwent the most changes, the central part of which was occupied by an 11.6-inch tablet taken from the mid-size models Legacy and Outback, along with the "shell" of the multimedia system and support for wireless smartphone connection. An intercom appeared, which includes microphones on all seats, allowing passengers to communicate with each other without raising their voices. Another important innovation was the updated complex of electronic assistants EyeSight, which added a third camera under the windshield, which accelerated the process of recognizing pedestrians and cyclists, as well as an electric brake booster, reducing the response time of automatic slowing down in front of an obstacle. Another distinction from the previous iteration was the Automatic Emergency Steering system, which helps avoid collisions at speeds of up to 80 km/h by turning away from the obstacle.

In technical terms, there were significantly fewer innovations. In essence, this is an updated version of the X-Mode system, the previous "off-road" mode of which was divided into two — Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud.
