2nd Generation

In August 2000, the next-generation model was introduced. The car significantly increased in size, becoming wider in the sedan body by 4 cm. At the same time, the wagon only increased by 5 mm, which was due to the brand's desire to differentiate these modifications into different categories determined by Japanese internal legislation and providing various tax benefits to car owners and manufacturers. The engine range still consisted of EJ series engines with a volume of 1.5 to 2.5 liters. The most "cubic" power units, equipped with a turbocharger, were used in the "charged" versions WRX and WRX STi. During the production period from 2000 to 2007, the car underwent two restylings. Both times, it received minor changes in appearance, mainly in the front part, changing the design of the headlights.

3rd Generation

The car of the third iteration debuted in the spring of 2007. Both the standard model with "atmospheric" engines and the "charged" version WRX with a turbocharged engine were presented. In this generation, the car became available in a 5-door hatchback body for the first time, replacing the wagon in the lineup. 4th Generation

In 2011, the brand introduced the sedan and hatchback of the next iteration. Remaining in the sizes of the predecessor, the cars turned out to be lighter and had a more efficient design in terms of aerodynamics, which significantly reduced their fuel appetite. At the same time, the wheelbase was increased, which added space in the salon, especially on the rear sofa, where there was much more room in the leg and head area. In addition, it featured visually and tactilely more pleasant materials. The engine range still consisted of boxer engines, which worked in pair with the "basic" 5-speed manual gearbox or the stepless variator Lineartonic CVT.

5th Generation

In March 2016, the debut of the car of the fifth generation took place. It became the first model based on the brand's new "global" platform. It is characterized by an increased stiffness of 70 to 100% compared to the previous one, with the center of gravity lowered by 5 mm. In addition, the car became longer and wider, increasing the wheelbase, which again offered even more space in the salon. Another significant innovation was the completely redesigned suspension, which retained only 5% of the components from the predecessors. As a result, the concept of standard versions changed significantly, which turned out to be much more comfortable on the go and in handling. The engine lineup featured a deeply revised 2-liter engine, producing 150 hp. The updated version of the Lineartronic variator differs in an extended range of gear ratios. 6th Generation

In the fall of 2022, the brand introduced the car of the current generation in the USA. It lost the sedan version, being available exclusively as a 5-door hatchback. Another "loss" was the disappearance of modifications with a manual transmission, leaving the Lineartronic variator as the only alternative. Structurally, the car practically did not change, using the same platform and components as the predecessor. The more widespread use of high-strength steel made it possible to increase the body's strength for bending and torsion. The steering featured a rack from the "charged" version WRX. In turn, the engine range saw the return of the "atmospheric" engine with a volume of 2.5 liters and a power of 180 hp, making the "base" modification with a 2-liter petrol engine from the predecessor.
