The mid-size car from the French manufacturer is not so widespread in Russia, but still has a group of its fans.

The beginning of the story

The development of the new model began in 1987, and the serial production started only in 1994. Such a large interval is connected with the intensive development of each detail and the overall design. Particular attention was paid to passive and active safety systems.

Initially, the car was offered only in the hatchback body, and only a year later, the "universal" modification appeared. The distinctive feature of the model was the smoothness of the ride, which was provided by the suspension. The salon was spacious and comfortable, both for the driver and passengers. As power units, eight-valve engines with a volume of 1.8 and 2.0 liters, as well as a "six" with a volume of 3.0, were used. The first ones were low-power, which made the car less dynamic compared to competitors.

In 1998, a restyling was carried out, which changed the shape of the headlights, both front and rear, and fog lights appeared. The main difference was the galvanizing of the body, which was supposed to neutralize the effects of aggressive factors and increase resistance to corrosion. The range of engines has also expanded, including 16-valve modifications with greater power and significantly increasing the car's dynamics.

Further development

In 2000, the second generation was released, which was also made with a galvanized body. Among the distinctive features are the aluminum hood and trunk lid, which lightened the structure. Particular attention was paid to passive safety. Due to this, the car received the maximum score in the tests. Another feature was the keyless start system. As the last one, a special card with a radio frequency chip was used. At the same time, the engine start itself was implemented using a button. However, such a technical solution was unreliable, which had a significant impact on the popularity of the model.

The range of engines was completely changed. Its basis consisted of gasoline engines with phase fuel injection.

The third generation (2007) has undergone significant visual changes, despite the unchanged base from the "second". At the same time, the model was immediately presented in the universal and hatchback. As for the power units, in addition to the classic 1.6 and 2.0 with turbines, new variations of the 2.0-liter engine, which were developed jointly with Nissan, were also presented. The range of diesel engines consisted of several options for 2.0 liters.

The controversial design and a number of technical drawbacks (including the play of the steering rack, the unreliability of the fuel system) did their job, reducing demand. As a result, the manufacturer refused the model in 2012. It was replaced by the "Talisman" model - this happened in 2015.
