The off-road vehicle, also known as a "crossover," is exactly how one could characterize the novelty from the Swedish manufacturer, which was introduced to the public in 2001. On the one hand, the large clearance of 218 cm, the all-wheel drive system with electronic control, and the powerful engine relate the model to the off-road segment. On the other hand, the lack of inter-axle locks does not allow such a vehicle to be fully used on rough terrain.

Start of production

The car went into serial production in 2002. Initially, two options were presented with five-cylinder and six-cylinder engines, which had a power of 209 and 271 hp, respectively. Later, a 4.4-liter V8 appeared in the lineup. The model was built on a universal platform, on which such cars as the S80, V70, and S60 were produced. At the same time, the salon of the first generation was distinguished by its spaciousness and the presence of seven seats, arranged in three rows. The manufacturer paid special attention to ergonomics, so every part of the salon was detailed and had a certain function. It was ergonomics and high-quality assembly that made the car a real hit of its time. Note that in Russia, it began to be officially supplied in 2005. Second generation

It was assumed that the updated version of the off-road vehicle would appear in 2009-10. But this did not happen due to the change of ownership, which became the Geely concern (China). As a result, the second generation started only in 2014. During this period, a special action was carried out, for which a limited batch of cars called First Edition was prepared. Its volume was 1927 cars and marked the year of the founding of the parent company Volvo. It is noteworthy that all the cars were sold out through the internet literally an hour after the start of sales.

The main feature of the second generation was a new platform, which differs in reduced mass and increased mechanical strength. At the same time, the car itself increased in dimensions, which made it possible to make the salon and trunk even more spacious. The model is equipped with several 2.0-liter engines, including 2 petrol and 2 diesel engines with turbines. Also, a hybrid version with an electric motor appeared in the lineup.

The manufacturer still positions the car as maximally safe and reliable. And this is confirmed - having sold more than 50,000 copies, not a single case of death of the driver or passenger was recorded.

In 2019, the model underwent a restyling, which supplemented it with modern systems, including a large touch screen, with the help of which the main control of auxiliary units is carried out.
