Volvo S80 — a car of representative class, produced from 1998 to 2016. It was positioned as a replacement for the S90 of the first generation, becoming the flagship of the model range of the Swedish automaker, as well as the only car that did not have a version in the "station wagon" body. In the second half of 2016, its production was discontinued, simultaneously with the debut of the S90 of the second generation.

First Generation

The model of the first iteration was presented in 1998. The design prevailed stylistic elements from the Volvo ECC concept. In technical terms, the car was a classic sedan on the P2 platform. Due to the generally accepted standards in the engine line, there was a 6-cylinder engine. Its in-line design and transverse arrangement caused certain difficulties with the placement of the transmission. Units from third-party manufacturers were too bulky, which is why Volvo had to develop its own transmission, which received the M65 index. Initially, the engine line consisted of four engines. The initial one was a 5-cylinder in-line power unit with a volume of 2.4 liters and a power of 139 hp, which existed in several versions, working both on gasoline and on gas. The next one in the hierarchy was a 6-cylinder engine with a volume of 2.9 liters, and on the most dynamic modifications, a turbocharged 6-cylinder engine with a power of 272 hp was installed. In addition, there was a 2.5-liter diesel engine with a power of 140 hp from Volkswagen in the lineup.

Second Generation

The car of the second generation appeared in the winter of 2006. The key difference from the predecessor was the engine line. It featured a new 6-cylinder in-line engine with a volume of 3.2 liters, as well as a 4.4-liter V8. Despite the increased, compared to the existing 3.2-liter V8, displacement, the engine turned out to be compact enough to fit under the hood of the new S80. The power unit was developed jointly with Yamaha. The final result of the cooperation was a dynamic 315-horsepower sedan. Another feature of the second-generation model was the multitude and diversity of various electronic systems. In particular, the equipment included an adaptive cruise control, which, under certain conditions, "prepared" the braking system for emergency deceleration, pressing the pads against the brake discs. In 2010, the car underwent a major update. The engine line was changed again. It featured a new D5 diesel engine, the existing 2.5-liter gasoline engines became more powerful and economical, and the incredible V8 from Yamaha, on the contrary, became less accessible. Even after so many years after the end of production of this model, a large number of its instances still exist on our roads, occasionally requiring replacement of tires and wheels. Their wide range is presented in the online store "Mosavtoshina".
