Tires on Opel (Опел)

The Opel car brand currently belongs to the transnational corporation Stellantis, which acquired it in January 2021. From 1929 to 2017, the company was part of General Motors and the PSA group.

History

The Opel company was founded in January 1862 and was engaged in the production of sewing machines. In 1886, the company mastered the production of high-wheel bicycles, penny-farthing. At that time, their assembly took place in a former cowshed. Only two years later, the workshop moved to a more spacious building in Rüsselsheim. Bicycle sales were more than successful, soon exceeding the production volumes of sewing machines. Moreover, Opel occupied leading positions in both segments. The company started car production in 1898, and the debut model of the brand was developed by the locksmith Friedrich Lutzmann. The first car was assembled in early 1899. The entire batch of 65 copies was sold with difficulty, and it took more than two years to realize it. The Opel Daracq, representing the chassis of the French company Daracq, with an Opel body and a 2-cylinder engine installed on it, were in much greater demand. Their production continued until 1907. In 1909, the Doktorwagen - Opel 4/5 PS appeared - a reliable and unpretentious car that could travel long distances on dirt roads without breaking down, which made it popular among German doctors. The next important stage in the history of the brand began in the 1920s, when an assembly line was launched at the enterprise, which allowed significantly reducing production costs and making the brand's cars truly mass-produced. In 1928, Opel occupied 37% of the German car market, supplying more cars for export to other countries than anyone else. Under the impression of the company's production power, General Motors acquired 80% of Opel's shares, bringing its stake to 100% in 1931. The large-scale modernization that followed allowed the company to increase its annual production volumes to 100,000 units. Most of them were Opel P4, the predecessor of the legendary Kadett.

Opel today

Currently, Opel cars and spare parts are produced at 10 plants. In addition, the company has four development centers and test sites in six countries. The brand is represented in more than 60 markets around the world. The product line remains virtually unchanged for several decades. These are still B- and C-class passenger cars, crossovers of similar size, minivans, as well as compact commercial vehicles. Most cars share a platform with similar models of other brands. This is especially noticeable in the line of commercial equipment, which has "clones" in the form of Peugeot Partner, Renault Master/Trafic, Fiat Ducato. In the line of passenger cars, platforms developed by the Nissan Group are currently being actively used, which are being replicated by Stellantis across all brands belonging to the corporation, such as the new Astra L. The only innovation is the Manta GSe, a sports coupe revived after more than 30 years after the end of production. It is an electric car weighing just over 1100 kg with a battery pack shifted closer to the center of the wheelbase, which, together with the high power of the power unit, guarantees excellent dynamics and handling, which is how the original Manta of the 80s of the last century was remembered. Despite the lack of official sales in our country, a large number of Opel cars are present on domestic roads. Tires for them are presented in a wide range in the online store "Mosavtoshina".
