The Citroen Xantia was produced in series from 1993 to 2001, occupying a key place in the European segment of mid-class family cars. The model was created as a technologically more advanced successor to the Citroen BX and at the same time as a demonstration of the company's engineering philosophy, based on a combination of comfort, non-standard technical solutions, and well-thought-out ergonomics. Update of the predecessor's concept


The car became a direct successor to the famous Citroen BX and at the same time one of the most technically saturated cars in the European D-class of its time. The novelty was developed as a more solid and technologically complex alternative to its predecessor: the body became wider and more rigid, aerodynamics improved, and the level of equipment increased significantly.
The design was created by the Bertone studio. Unlike the angular styling of the BX, the lines of the Xantia became softer and more plastic. The low hood, smooth roof line, and compact stern gave the silhouette dynamics, and the coefficient of aerodynamic resistance was reduced to 0.30 — a respectable figure for a mid-1990s family sedan. The interior was developed with an emphasis on ergonomics and comfort of long trips.
