The Citroen Jumper is a line of light commercial vehicles. It has been produced since 1994 and is the result of a collaboration between the PSA Group and the Italian company Fiat, which produce the same model under their own brands.

History of creation

The cooperation between Fiat and PSA in the field of commercial vehicles began in the first half of the 1970s. The companies jointly produced the Fiat 242, which was given the index C35 by Citroen. In 1978, both companies jointly developed the Fiat Ducato of the 1st generation, also known as the Citroen C25. The second generation of this van was introduced in 1993 and was offered by the French manufacturer as the "Jumper". It had a classic layout for commercial vehicles of that time with a front-mounted engine, which maximized the cargo space. In addition to the van, the vehicle was available in a passenger version, accommodating from 6 to 9 people. The engine range consisted of four engines - a 2-liter gasoline engine and three diesel engines with a capacity of 2 to 2.8 liters. The power units, depending on the modification, were combined with a 5-speed "mechanics" or a 4-range "automatic". Additionally, all-wheel drive modifications were offered. In the winter of 2002, the vehicle underwent a modernization. It mainly affected the engine range, from which the 2.5-liter diesel engine was excluded. In 2005, the model was discontinued in Europe, but production continued in Brazil until the end of 2016.

Second generation

In September 2006, the manufacturers introduced vans of the next generation. The vehicle received a new platform X250, which made it possible to significantly expand the number of available modifications and components. In 2014, the model was significantly updated, receiving not only a modernized platform X290 but also a modified engine range. After a long absence, PSA engines were returned - in-line diesel "fours" with a capacity of 2 and 2.2 liters, which met the Euro-6 requirements. Additionally, the range of transmissions has expanded and changed. Basic versions were equipped with a 6-speed manual gearbox, an alternative to which was an 8-range "automatic".
