The Citroen BX is a mid-size car that was produced in hatchback and estate body styles from 1982 to 1994. During this period, more than 2 million units were produced, which is a direct testament to the popularity of the model not only in the country but also abroad.
At the start of sales, only the hatchback was presented, and the estate appeared only a year later. The main power units were gasoline engines with a volume of 1.4, 1.6, 1.9 liters. In Italy, Portugal, and Greece, a 1.1-liter engine was installed on the car, which made it possible to reduce the transport tax. Diesel engines appeared only in 1984 and immediately became a sales hit.
Among the technical features, we can note Hydractive - a hydro-pneumatic suspension, which was implemented at the front using rotary struts with rubber mounts. At the back - a lever design with hydraulic cylinders having a horizontal arrangement. Thanks to this, it was possible to adjust the clearance from 160 to 235 mm. This factor made it possible to use the family car (and it was positioned by the manufacturer as such) both in the city and on light off-road.
The original design with semi-enclosed arches at the back became the "chip" of this model. And such a design made it possible to take third place in sales in France in 1985. Note that the company wanted to establish the production of the vehicle in the USSR, but the proposed conditions were quite tough. As a result, these plans did not come true.
Thanks to numerous modifications, including "charged" versions (for example, GTi with a 160 hp engine), the model enjoyed overwhelming success, including far beyond its homeland. And car enthusiasts were not confused by the complex suspension for those times, which required regular maintenance. The BX's career ended in 1993. In our country, there were only single copies, the number of which increased slightly after the collapse of the USSR.
