The Citroen C5 is a mid-size car in the D segment. It has been produced since 2000, being the successor to the Xantia and XM.

The debut of this model took place at the end of 2000. In this generation, it was available with two body types - a 5-door liftback and a station wagon. Moreover, the choice in favor of the liftback was a fairly bold decision, since throughout its entire post-war history, the brand was known primarily for fastback sedans. The engine range was represented by three gasoline engines with a volume of 1.8 to 3 liters, as well as three diesel power units with a volume of 1.6 to 2.2 liters. In addition, a modification with the "signature" hydro-pneumatic suspension was offered. In this generation, Hydractive 3 was used, where electronic height correctors were used instead of mechanical ones, which made it possible to automatically change the ground clearance depending on the speed of movement. The possibility of manual control was preserved, but it had rigid speed limits. In September 2004, the car was modernized, receiving an updated front and rear. Due to the increased overhangs, it became slightly longer than the previous version.

RD/TD Model

In early 2008, the second generation of the car was released. It differed from its predecessor in design, representing not a liftback, but a three-volume sedan, while having a reduced aerodynamic drag coefficient. In the spring of the same year, a station wagon went into serial production, receiving the name Tourer and retaining the previous layout. As before, in addition to the traditional spring suspension, a hydro-pneumatic suspension was available. The updated engine range included a 2.7-liter V6 engine from Ford, previously installed in the C6 model. Later, it was replaced by a 6-cylinder 3-liter engine, which was not only more powerful but also more economical. In 2010, instead of two diesel engines with a volume of 2 and 2.2 liters, a single engine with a volume of 2 liters and a power of 160 hp was installed in the car. Similarly, the 2-liter "atmospheric" gasoline engine was replaced by a turbocharged engine with a volume of 1.6 liters from the Prince family. In 2011, a restyled version was presented with minor cosmetic changes, affecting the lighting devices, which became LED. The engine range was noticeably transformed, with two diesel engines with a volume of 2 and 2.2 liters and one gasoline engine with a volume of 1.6 liters, which became the "basic" one for this model. In 2019, the car was discontinued in Europe, which was due to the crisis of the entire D segment, which could not withstand the competition with crossovers. Nevertheless, a significant part of the instances of this model is still on the move, regularly requiring the replacement of tires and wheels.
