Development

The first few years of this car brand's existence were the most interesting. Its first two cars were made in 1899 and 1900, several years before the brand was registered. The cars were produced by the Buick Auto-Vim and Power Company, whose owner, David Dunbar Buick, did not want to start producing cars with the stationary and marine engines that were at his disposal at the time. In 1902, a patent was filed for an engine with an overhead valve arrangement. It was installed on the third Buick car, which was released by the already registered car brand on May 19, 1903. By 1904, the company's founder had run out of working capital, which was enough to assemble a few Model B cars. Because of this, an outside investor, William C. Durant, the owner of the country's largest railroad car manufacturing company, had to be attracted to the project, which made it possible to start mass production the following year, as part of which 37 Model C cars were produced. By 1909, sales volumes had reached 8,800 units, which allowed the then-young company to become the first on the North American market. But this had already happened to the company without its founder. David Buick sold his shares in 1906, and Durant continued to run the company's affairs. This time is also associated with another interesting fact. In 1907, Durant agreed to supply Buick engines to Canadian entrepreneur R.S. McLaughlin, who founded General Motors in 1908.

Today, the North American brand offers models developed mainly during the time when the company was part of the combined Opel/Vauxhall division, which was sold to the PSA group in 2017. There is a gradual refusal to use shared platforms and components from Opel. One such innovation is the Encore GX crossover, introduced in 2020. The company plans to transfer its entire line of cars to fully electric powertrains. Another important trend is the gradual reduction in the size of the models being produced. Already in 2024, only compact and mid-size crossovers are offered on the North American market. All these cars require the use of sufficiently specific tires.
