Buick Regal

The next-generation car, which appeared in 1978, had a 3.2-liter V6 gasoline engine as standard equipment, which was a modernized version of the 3.8-liter power unit from the previous model, along with a 3-speed "mechanics". Initially, it was only available as a coupe, but with the debut of the next-generation Century, the car was spun off into a separate model, receiving a line of versions with other body types - a 4-door sedan and a 5-door station wagon. Mechanically, it was connected to the previous generation Century, differing in a classic layout with a front-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive. The coupe received a turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 and a stiffer chassis, which allowed it to better compete with its "classmates" from Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Saab.

Third Generation

The car presented in the fall of 1987 used a new W platform at that time. At the same time, the manufacturer preferred to return to the original concept, presenting only a coupe with improved equipment and quality of finishing materials at the start of sales. The car lost any hints of "sports" in the technical part. This was a front-wheel drive coupe with a 2.8-liter V6 gasoline engine and 125 horsepower, taken from Chevrolet passenger cars. Three years later, seeking to boost sales, a 4-door sedan was added to the line. In all versions, a Dynaride suspension was offered as additional equipment, which featured an air compressor that leveled the rear of the body through pneumatic elements, providing a smoother ride.

Fourth Generation

The fourth-generation car differed in the use of a modified W platform, which it shared with all mid-size models of brands that are part of GM. For the first time in the line, there was no coupe. At the same time, the sedan was practically identical to the standard Century, differing only in minor changes to the exterior. Due to its more "elite" status, the car received a more powerful engine - a 3.8-liter V6 gasoline engine with and without a turbocharger. Already in the "base" version, the car had equipment offered in Centure as additional options - seats with leather upholstery and heating, 2-zone climate control, 8-channel audio system with surround sound from Mosoon. In addition, the cabin layout was 5-seat, not 6-seat, like the Century.

Two Generations of Opel Insignia

Starting from the fifth generation, which was presented in 2008, the car was a copy of the Opel Insignia, being a classic sedan of those years with a transverse engine arrangement and front-wheel drive. The difference between the North American version was the strengthened construction of the front struts, which was due to the need to meet US safety requirements and resulted in a weight increase of 9 kg. Thanks to the use of the German platform, buyers became available versions in the liftback and station wagon bodies, which became the first car of this brand in over two decades. The engine range consisted of one engine - a turbocharged 2-liter inline-four with 250 horsepower. In versions with front-wheel drive, it is combined with a 9-speed automatic transmission from GM, and with all-wheel drive - an 8-speed one. It is worth noting that all-wheel drive was implemented using two clutches on the rear axle, thanks to which such cars have a "torque vectoring" system.

Chinese Version

The model with this name disappeared from the brand's production line in North America in 2020. However, it continued to exist in China, where since 2017, a car with the same name has been produced, developed in China. Technically, this is the same Insignia, but only with two turbocharged engines with volumes of 1.5 and 2 liters developed by Opel and a 9-speed "automatic" from GM. In 2023, the car underwent an update, slightly changing its exterior and receiving expanded equipment - two-layer glazing, wireless charging for smartphones, a multimedia system of a new generation.
