The Taurus brand belongs to the tire giant Michelin, which acquired the Hungarian firm with over 100 years of history in 1996. It was founded in 1882 and was engaged in the production of various rubber products. The transition to automobile tires occurred in 1913, and the brand name was only applied to them in 1973. The key competencies of this brand are focused on the development and production of tires for commercial vehicles and agricultural equipment. In turn, passenger tires are the result of the work of Michelin engineers, covering a market niche in the mid-price range.
Currently, the nomenclature of passenger tires of the brand includes a dozen and a half models of the following categories:
- for passenger cars;
- for crossovers and SUVs;
- for light commercial vehicles.
For passenger cars, the brand offers several lines of summer and winter tires. Summer tires cover almost the entire target audience. Three models offer a set of operational properties with an emphasis on fuel efficiency, comfort, high-speed stability, sports handling, and other qualities depending on the preferences of the target audience. Winter and all-season tires from the brand, due to a large selection of models, cover almost all varieties of moderate and cold climates. The manufacturer offers both non-studded tires and tires with steel elements. At the same time, they use a well-proven rubber compound from Michelin, which is characterized by "brand" resistance to abrasive wear.
For crossovers and SUVs, the brand offers special versions of tires from the "passenger" line. With identical tread patterns, they differ in optimized carcasses and sidewalls that adapt the tires for use on heavy vehicles with a high center of mass.
The Taurus tire line for commercial vehicles consists of two models designed for summer and winter operation. In both cases, a reinforced "hybrid" carcass with steel and synthetic cord is used, with tread patterns featuring reinforced shoulder zones. These features give the tires increased load capacity, resistance to damage, good directional stability, and driving comfort.
In the segment of commercial tires, the manufacturer offers several dozen models of the following categories:
- for medium-duty trucks;
- for heavy-duty commercial vehicles;
- for mixed operating conditions - asphalt/dirt;
- for large buses.
Tires for medium-duty trucks from this brand represent a comprehensive solution. The line includes models for all axles, or for bearing axles of trailer equipment. All tires are distinguished by improved traction on wet pavement, low noise level, fuel efficiency, and long service life.
Similar comprehensive solutions, the manufacturer offers in the segment of commercial tires with increased load capacity. The line consists of models for steering, driving, and trailer axles. Each of them has a certain set of operational properties, which allows the tires to demonstrate high efficiency. Among the "brand" features that are characteristic of this line, it is worth highlighting the use of all-metal carcasses with wrapped in an elastic sheath steel wires with ultra-high tensile strength, tread patterns with stone ejectors in the grooves, special compounds with increased resistance to wear and punctures.
For mixed operating conditions, the brand offers two lines of tires designed for steering and driving axles. The target audience for these tires is dump trucks, concrete mixers, and other special equipment used on construction sites, mining enterprises. They are distinguished by the most robust carcass design, the use of special compounds with increased resistance to punctures, tears, chips, and cracking, as well as tread patterns with an open design.
The Taurus tire line for large buses is represented by universal models for any axle. It differs from other commercial tires of the brand by a number of features. First of all, this is a tread pattern adapted for use in specific urban conditions. In addition, there is a special indicator on the sidewalls that indicates the need for replacement. It is possible to note the possibility of re-grooving the tread pattern of the tread part with grooves up to 7-8 mm wide and up to 2 mm deep. This possibility is provided for all commercial tires of the brand.
