DescriptionDescription Armstrong Ski-Trac S
Armstrong Ski-Trac S – a winter passenger tire with a tread supplemented with studs. The model demonstrates confident passing, both snowy and icy sections, while maintaining full control over the vehicle.
The tire tread is represented by a multi-block structure, which forms a huge number of small-sized lugs. In combination with the studs, they reliably fix the contact patch, maintaining the effectiveness of the traction characteristics. This has a positive effect on braking and acceleration properties, minimizing skidding and sliding, including lateral ones.
The use of specially shaped studs, as well as reinforced mounting seats, guarantees a long service life while maintaining the main mass of metal elements. Even with the loss of 10-20% of the studs, the tire's efficiency remains at a high level. This is ensured by a special scheme for arranging the elements. Another feature is the rubber compound, which contains a significant percentage of silicon dioxide. This component improves the coupling properties with a wet road surface and also provides a high degree of adaptability to negative temperatures, maintaining the elasticity of the compound.
Key features of the Armstrong Ski-Trac S:
- a winter tire for a wide range of passenger cars;
- increased resistance to icy surfaces due to the developed stud system;
- maintaining elasticity at negative temperatures due to special additives in the compound;
- a relatively low noise level compared to analogs due to the special shape of the studs

The tire is not designed for winter operation. It normally behaves only on asphalt. Braking on ice is not important. And the worst thing is to enter a turn in the winter, it doesn't hold the trajectory at all. At a speed of 25 km/h, it skids off the trajectory. The maximum speed for passing a regular turn in the winter period is 15-20 km/h. It's quite quiet, not rigid, and doesn't become brittle until -15 degrees. Within the first thousand kilometers, several studs came off. During balancing, 100g weights were glued on, apparently it's also poorly balanced.
P.S. I got the tire as a gift from the dealer. I threw it away and bought another one that I've been driving on for the past few years (no advertising).

A strong quartet! Satisfied with the purchase. For two months, all the studs are in place. It grips the snowy road well. On overtaking, it feels confident. Two weak points: it is more difficult to balance than Continental and it is noisy after 90 km/h, but you don't expect silence from winter tires. I hope my review will be useful to you.

- Good performance on snow
- Mediocre traction on ice
- Tires with 10-millimeter studs were tested, which had a very small protrusion after running-in, which affected the performance on ice. At the same time, a recommendation was made to use 10.3 mm long studs, which should improve traction on icy surfaces
