DescriptionDescription Barum BU54
The key feature of the Barum BU54 truck tire is its widest range of applications. In addition to the possibility of installation on almost any modern truck, this model can be operated on steering, driving, and trailer axles. Moreover, it is impossible not to note the excellent traction and coupling characteristics, as well as the long service life.
Universal tread pattern
Despite the fact that this tire is one of the novelties of the Czech tire giant, its design has incorporated a number of solutions that were used in previous models. This cannot be considered a disadvantage for several reasons. First of all, the effectiveness of "old" solutions has been tested by time, and besides, the simplicity of the design could not affect the cost, which is at a very humane level for a European product.
One of such solutions is the tread pattern, which consists of only four longitudinal ribs, separated by three drainage grooves. The reduction in the number of tread elements made it possible to significantly increase their size, and with it, the contact patch area. This feature had a very beneficial effect on the coupling properties, especially when driving on dry roads.
The two longitudinal ribs located in the central part of the tread have a large number of separate blocks of complex shape, with many edges and corners. This was done to ensure the most efficient transmission of the engine torque of the truck to the road surface. As a result, the tire is perfectly suitable for operation on driving axles.
As for the installation on steering axles, the relevant operational qualities here are directional stability and quick response to steering wheel turns. The Barum BU54 is in perfect order with these indicators, thanks to the excellent stability of all tread elements to dynamic deformation that occurs during movement.
Long service life
Like any commercial tire of a new generation, the Barum BU54 is distinguished by a long service life. This is mainly due to the rubber compound, which has a number of components that provide the tread with excellent resistance to abrasive wear. However, it is also worth noting the optimized structure of the tread pattern, especially its shoulder zones. Each of them is a very rigid solid element. In combination with their massive size, this allows for a significantly better distribution of external load on the contact patch, thereby preventing the occurrence of uneven wear. As a result, the tire demonstrates a very long service life, which significantly reduces its ownership costs.
Excellent resistance to aquaplaning
Trucks often have to move on wet roads, which have a rather mediocre coefficient of friction. In addition, there is a high probability of aquaplaning. To combat this phenomenon, the Czech tire manufacturers have "prepared" a high-performance drainage system, the small number of elements of which is offset by their large size. It consists of three very deep and wide longitudinal grooves, which are connected by a multitude of transverse grooves. Thanks to this design, the tire's contact patch remains almost dry even in very unfavorable conditions.
Main features of Barum BU54
- very wide range of applications, thanks to the possibility of operation on any axles of trucks;
- excellent coupling on dry and wet surfaces is ensured by a large contact patch and a highly efficient drainage system;
- excellent traction properties in any road conditions due to the block structure of the central part of the tread pattern;
- high resistance to abrasive and uneven wear is ensured by the massive size and rigid construction of the shoulder zones of the tread.
