A joint Japanese-Chinese venture, which was established in 1998 on the basis of Guangzhou Peugeot Automobile Co. The latter did not live up to expectations and due to its unprofitability, it was restructured.

Historical Reference

The Guangzhou government, where the joint venture with Peugeot was organized, seeing the failure of the cooperation, began to look for alternative partners. Among all the proposals, the one from the Japanese Honda was the most liked. Moreover, at that time, its products were quite popular in the country. As a result, an agreement was signed to create a joint venture, which was named Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co Ltd. The first car released by the new venture was the American version of the Accord. This happened in 1999. Due to the already prepared groundwork by the previous venture with the French, the skilled development of marketing companies, and the loyal attitude of consumers to the Honda brand, the venture quickly began to develop, increasing its capacity.

In 2009, a rebranding took place, and the company received a more familiar name to us - GAC Honda. All assembly work is carried out at two plants, where some parts of Japanese origin are also supplied.

Sub-brand

For the domestic Chinese market, the company created a separate brand called Everus. Under it, more budget-friendly cars are produced, which combine a low price and advanced technologies. The main consumer of these cars is the middle class, which is not ready to overpay for a fully Japanese car. The first model presented within the new program was the S1, a permanent based on the Honda City.
