The Dodge Dakota is a mid-size pickup truck that began its production journey back in 1986. The model was released under the Dodge brand until 2009, and then for two more years under the Ram brand.

Historical reference

The first generation was developed by the Chrysler concern for the American market. Many components were borrowed from existing models. The car was produced from 1986 to 1996. The machine had several body options, was equipped with 2.2, 2.9, 3.5, and 5.2-liter engines. The latter worked together with a five-speed mechanics or a 3 (then 4) -stage "automatic". During its existence, the first generation repeatedly underwent modernizations, most of which concerned power units.

The second generation appeared in 1997 and lasted until 2004. The Chrysler DN platform served as the basis for it. Despite the fact that the car grew in size, it still occupied a middle position in the line of released models. The updated interior and exterior not only improved the aesthetic component but also improved operational comfort. The car was supplied with two and four-door cabins. A wide range of engines, including V8, was hidden under the hood. Notably, this was the only mid-size pickup that was equipped with a 5.9-liter Magnum. It was this generation that began to be supplied to Brazil, and later assembled there.

The updated "Dakota" in the form of a new generation was presented in 2005. This was a platform mate of the Dodge Durango, which again increased in size compared to the previous version. The manufacturer now installed only two engines with a capacity of 3.7 and 4.7 liters, which produced 210 and 230 horsepower, respectively. The cabin was presented only with 4 doors. The completely redesigned suspension was distinguished by its comfort and reliability, allowing the transportation of fairly heavy loads. The car existed until 2009, after which it entered the Ram line. Notably, for some time, the Dodge badge was present on the body, which was later abolished.
