On ice, if you brake smoothly, braking occurs over a short distance without significant drawbacks, and does not differ much from studded tires, unless you lock the wheels until the ABS kicks in, then studded tires won't help either. Rolling on ice is simply excellent. On snow/mush and packed snow, it rides evenly, not scary and doesn't slip, that's it.
