The Peugeot 508 is currently the flagship model of the French brand, representing a mid-size car belonging to the D segment. It has been produced since 2010, becoming the successor to the 407 and indirectly the larger 607.

Main Features

The car was first "introduced" to the general public through spy shots of pre-production models in the summer of 2010. In the fall of the same year, the official debut of the model took place. It differed significantly from its predecessor with the 407 index. First of all, the giant front overhang and huge headlights disappeared. At the same time, the car was made in a design devoid of excessive aggressiveness, which further expanded its target audience. An important advantage was the extremely wide range of equipment for standard configurations, as well as an unusually large amount of soundproofing. During the first year of serial production, the car became the owner of a number of titles, including "best large family car".

The basis of high sales was formed by modifications not with gasoline, but with diesel engines HDI, equipped with the Common Rail system, which offered good traction, along with excellent fuel efficiency. The eHDI version with a hybrid power unit was especially notable in this regard, where a 1.6-liter diesel engine with 112 horsepower was assisted by a 37-horsepower Bosch motor. Its consumption per 100 km could be "reduced" to 4.2 liters. In combination with a larger fuel tank than many competitors, the range of this version exceeded 1600 km. In addition to it, the lineup included a "charged" GT modification with an in-line diesel "four" with a volume of 2.2 liters, which was distinguished not so much by its power of 204 horsepower as by its "cargo" torque of 458 Nm.

Second Generation

In the winter of 2018, the premiere of the second-generation car took place. It retained the concept of its predecessor, offering a combination of comfort, fuel efficiency, and impressive design, but in a more pronounced form. In addition to the design, the principal difference from the predecessor was the engine range, which included new PureTech engines with three and four cylinders with volumes of 1.2 and 1.6 liters. In turn, the "diesel" part became significantly smaller, offering only two power units - a 1.5-liter engine from Ford and a 2-liter engine from the DW10 line of its own development. For the first few years of serial production, they were combined with 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions. As part of the restyling, the manufacturer began to offer an 8-range "automatic" from Aisin. In the fall of 2019, a version with a "hybrid" power unit based on a turbocharged 1.6-liter gasoline engine appeared. In both the first and second generations, the car did not become popular on our roads, nevertheless, it has a stable audience among compatriots.
