The Peugeot 206 is a B-segment car. The model's serial production was carried out from September 1998 to April 2005. At the moment, it is the most popular in the history of the brand. During the production time, more than 8.3 million copies were sold. The modified version of the car is still being produced under license in Iran by IKCO.

Development

In the early 1990s, Peugeot's management had the idea of replacing the 205 model not directly, but with two cars at once - the 106 and 306, hoping to keep the legendary 205 in production for some time, gradually phasing it out and inclining its owners to buy a smaller or larger car. As a result, the strategy turned out to be a failure, since after the end of the 205's production, its target audience went to the Ford Fiesta and the VW Polo, which did not have a direct competitor with a lion on the grille. And Peugeot had to develop the T1 project in emergency mode in 1994. It took 34 months and 6.3 billion French francs, some of which were spent on correcting the design. At the same time, the car became the first to be created using computer modeling technologies. As part of the work, it was necessary to develop a new platform, since the existing ones did not fit the dimensions of the model being designed.

Engine range

Initially, the car was equipped with three petrol engines with a volume of 1.1 to 1.6 liters and one 1.9-liter diesel engine. Later, a HDi modification with a diesel engine of the same volume, equipped with the CommonRail system, appeared. And in 1999, a "charged" version of the GTi with a 2-liter petrol engine appeared, accelerating to "hundred" in 7.4 seconds.

Model range

Initially, the car was offered only with one body type, traditionally a hatchback with 3 or 5 doors. In March 2002, a SW version appeared, which is a compact wagon. It differed from the original by a reinforced rear suspension, which compensated for the increased weight of the car. Its production continued until the appearance of the model with the index 207, presented in 2006. In the same year, the premiere of the car in a sedan body took place in Iran, or rather in one of its variations, which is called a "notchback". This modification was actively sold throughout Eastern Europe, as well as in Latin America, Malaysia, and China, where the 206th was available exclusively with this body type.

The convertible version is worth mentioning separately. It was presented in 2000 and used the solutions shown in the Peugeot 20 Coeur concept two years earlier. The car was a coupe-cabriolet with an electric folding roof. At the same time, the Georges Paulin system, which appeared back in 1935 on the 402 Eclipse coupe, was used. If such modifications are extremely rare on domestic roads, then the rest of the 206th versions can be found quite often, despite the long time that has passed since they were removed from production.
