The Peugeot 407 is a mid-size car in the D segment. It was produced from 2004 to 2012, replacing the 406 model on the factory assembly line, and giving way to the 508 model.

Concept Elixir

A year before the release of the production model, the French manufacturer introduced the concept of the future car - the 407 Elixir. Its exterior design featured a wedge-shaped silhouette with an extended front overhang, characteristic of the production model. In addition, it was distinguished by a wide range of equipment, from dual-zone climate control to a multimedia system with navigation and a 7-inch display. The technical part was no less "advanced". First of all, this is a new 3-liter diesel engine developed jointly with Ford, with a power of 200 hp. It worked in conjunction with an automatic Tiptronic transmission. This "pairing" was later also transferred to the production car.

Initial Version

The official premiere of the car took place at the end of May 2004. At the start of sales, it was offered only in one body type - a sedan. In September of the same year, a station wagon appeared in the lineup, and in July 2005 - a coupe. The car was built on the latest modular platform PF3 at the time, which was used by the French manufacturer in all passenger models belonging to the D and E segments. However, only the 407th was distinguished by an extremely controversial exterior, especially the front part, which was brought into stylistic conformity with the previously presented 307th model. Nevertheless, the "evil eyes and big mouth" were able to find not only critics but also fans. Already in the first year of sales, the manufacturer managed to sell more than a quarter of a million copies. This was largely due to the rich equipment, including unique options for this class at that time - electronic suspension, electro-hydraulic power steering, seats with electric drive and memory, adaptive xenon headlights.

Restyling

In the summer of 2008, the manufacturer presented a modified version of the car. It differed in minor changes in design - the rear bumper for all versions was unified with the coupe, the exterior design of the rear lights was updated, where LEDs appeared, and a new radiator grille appeared in the front part. In turn, the salon received a central console with a glossy finish, and satellite navigation became part of the standard equipment for the "upper" trim levels. The engine range also underwent changes, becoming less numerous. The 2.2 and 3-liter gasoline engines were removed from it, and in the coupe, instead of a 2.7-liter diesel engine, a modernized V-shaped 3-liter HDi engine appeared at that time. At the same time, it could be combined not only with an "automatic", like a sedan, but also with a manual transmission.
