History of creation

The design of the car was a continuation of the suspended development of the Silhouette model, which used the Lada C platform, which was supposed to replace Gamma. It is worth noting that the work was carried out during the period of AvtoVAZ's acquisition by the Renault-Nissan alliance, which led to a number of significant changes in the platform design. They ensured the compatibility of a number of components from the foreign partner's models, which, on the one hand, reduced the costs of creating and producing the car, and on the other hand, significantly increased its reliability and comfort. In particular, this model uses a rear suspension and steering rack from Renault, and in some modifications - a Nissan engine and Jatco transmission. The development of the exterior was handled by Steve Mattin, who created the so-called X-style, in which all subsequent models of the Russian brand were executed.

Main features

The use of a modified Lada B platform, in particular, made it possible to significantly increase the length of the car. Some solutions were borrowed from the suspended Silhouette project. First of all, this is the front suspension with L-shaped levers. It was supplemented with new steering knuckles and caster, making up 5 degrees. The aforementioned steering from Renault has tilt and telescopic column adjustment. Another borrowing from the French manufacturer was the braking mechanisms and radiator. The engine range consisted of two gasoline engines with a volume of 1.6 and 1.8 liters. The car was also equipped with two 5-speed manual transmissions, one of which was its own design, and the other with the JR5 index was provided by Renault. It is also the only option for the "charged" Sport version. In addition, it differs from the upgraded 1.8-liter engine, which, thanks to the replacement of camshafts, fuel system and control program, develops 145 horsepower. In this modification, other springs and shock absorbers are used, and the steering has a changed gear ratio. Having just appeared on sale, the car became very popular, remaining so to this day.
